Anup Kumar is a former Indian professional Kabaddi player who was born on November 20th 1983. He was the captain of the Indian national Kabaddi team. During his time his team won 2 gold medals in the Asia level, one in 2010 and other in 2014.
He also won the South Asian gold medal on 2016 and the 2016 Kabaadi World Cup. He is one of the most destructive raiders in the pro-Kabaadi league and also at the international level. The first five years of his career was in U Mumbai then, he went to Jaipur pink panthers. He was also awarded the Arjuna award by the government of India.
Now, he is serving as the deputy commissioner of police in Haryana. He scored a total of 596 points in his career at the pro-Kabaadi league. He is also nicknamed by his fans as Captain Cool, Bonus ka Badshah because of his brilliant captainship and sportsmanship.
He was the captain at U Mumba. He also won the award of the most valuable player at the first season itself. In the year 2015, he led his team to the finals where they defeated Bengaluru Bulls in the finals. At 2017, Anup Kumar was kept by U Mumba for the fifth consecutive season. In the fifth season,, he became the first player in Pro Kabaddi to complete 400 raid points. But, at the 6th season, his contract with U Mumbai got over and he was released. This time Abhishek Bachchan bought him for 30 lakhs (Indian rupee) for Jaipur pink panthers.
On 19th December 2018, he retired from playing Kabaadi. His career lasted for a span of 15 years. Now, he is also working as a coach in Puneri Paltan for the 7th season of Pro-Kabaadi.
