Dhanpal Ganesh, a Chennai born football player, was born on 13 June 1991. He is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League. This defensive midfielder began his youth career with Pune Academy and made his first appearance against Churchill Brothers at the Fatorda Stadium. Dhanpal started his first-ever Pune Derby against Bharat FC but was sent-off on the 88th minute of the game, which resulted in 1-1.
After starting his journey with the Pune Academy, Dhanpal was loaned off to Pailan Arrows and made his debut in 2012 in the Durand Cup against Air India. In the same year, the local star made his debut for the under-23 squad against Lebanon in the Asian Cup Qualifiers where India won 5–2.
In the 2013-2014 season, Dhanpal was back with the Pune Academy. The midfielder was in his best form and made his debut in the AFC Champions League qualifier match against Hanoi T&T.
In 2015, Chennaiyin FC signed up Tamil Nadu-born Dhanpal Ganesh in the squad, but he didn’t feature in a single match. The next year, he enjoyed a successful season with the club after playing 17 games in the Hero I-League 2016-17. Starting his first-ever ISL game, he bossed the midfield, together with Bikramjit Singh. The young star returned to Chennaiyin for the Hero ISL 2017-18 and had a stellar season as CFC won the title that year. The enforcer grabbed attention with his performances for the Super Machans that season. The 27-year-old had sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and he missed the entire 2018-19 Hero ISL campaign.
The burly mid-fielder, despite being injured, recently signed a new three-year deal that keeps him at the Marina Arena until 2022.
