Indian footballer Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was born on 3rd February 1992 in Punjab. He started his youth career in 2000 for St. Stephen's Football Academy and later in 2009 he joined East Bengal FC U18. In the next season, he was promoted to the senior team. Gurpreet played a total of 43 matches for East Bengal where he managed to keep 16 clean sheets.
The turning point in his career was when a Swedish team Stabaek IF wanted the services of the Indian goalkeeper. East Bengal sold the player for an undisclosed fee and the player was also happy to make a move. It was a golden day in the history of Indian Football when Gurpreet Singh made his debut on 18th January 2015. He made his debut in a friendly match with Follo FK and the team won with Gurpreet conceding just 1 goal.
In 2016, he played all the cup matches for the Swedish club and even made his debut in the league against IK Start. Another historic day in Indian Football was 30th June of 2016 when Gurpreet became the first Indian Footballer to play in the UEFA Europa League against Connah's Quay Nomads Football Club in Wales. He started the game and played for 30 minutes before being substituted off. He played a total of 11 matches for Stabaek IF across all games and kept 6 clean sheets and conceded just 10 goals.
After returning from Sweden, he signed for Bengaluru FC in 2017 and since then he has made 70 appearances for the club and helped them win the ISL trophy once in 2018. He even has made 38 appearances for the national team. He is termed as the "WALL OF INDIA".
Gurpreet is a die-hard fan of Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul. Apart from winning trophies for his club, he has won the golden glove during Bengaluru FC's triumph in the Hero Indian Super League and in 2019 he was honoured with the Arjuna Award.
