A game of creativity and swift decisions, handball is fast become a popular sport . The game is known by names like Team Handball, Olympic Handball, and Borden Ball. Two teams of seven players take the field score points by putting the ball into the opposite team's goal. While handling the ball, players are subjected to the following restrictions:
After receiving the ball, players can pass, keep possession, or shoot the ball.
If a player holds possession, he must dribble with a bounce or take up to three steps for three seconds at a time without dribbling.
Only the defending goalkeeper is allowed to touch the floor of the goal area (within six metres of the goal). A shot or pass in the goal area is valid if completed before touching the floor. Goalkeepers are allowed outside the goal area but are not allowed to cross the goal area boundary with the ball in their hands.
The ball may not be passed back to the goalkeeper when they are positioned in the goal area.
Notable scoring opportunities occur when an attacking player jumps into the goal area. For example, an attacking player may catch a pass while launching inside the goal area and then shoot or pass before touching the floor. Handball is played on a court of 40 x 20 metres (131 ft × 66 ft), with a goal in the centre of each end. The goals are placed in a semi-circular line, called the zone or the crease, which has a distance of 6 metres from the goal. A dashed near-semicircular line of 9 metres from the goal marks the free-throw line.
Handball is not a lucrative sport but, India has deep connections with the game. The diversion is particularly prominent and there are a ton of discussions over the starting point of Handball. Many say that the Egyptians and the Persians introduced a game similar to handball years ago. It was long lost in the history of a time when the Western Europeans introduced the game to the world. The Handball Federation of India was established by Mr. Jagat Singh Lohan who hailed from Rohtak in Haryana who was a former student of YMCA College of Physical Education of Madras. He was likewise the main Secretary-General of the Handball Federation Of India and Mr.Lohan is considered to be the father of handball games, netball, and throwball games in India. His endeavors in Germany amid the Munich Olympics in 1972 aided in building up the Handball Federation Of India and today Handball is fast becoming a popular sport with men and women equally bringing laurels to the nation.
