None of the Bengaluru FC and Indian Super League fans will forget Rahul Bheke. The player scored the winner for one of the successful clubs in Indian football, Bengaluru FC, in the 117th minute of the finals. After a disappointing year for BFC in their first season, the right-back led the team to lift the trophy the next season.
Born on 6th December 1990, the Mumbai lad started his career at the school level. The player joined the Under-19 side of Mahindra United. The player found it difficult to manage both studies and football career in the early stages. However, the player made it to Air India, his first-ever professional club at the age of 21. However, things didn’t go in the player’s way as Air India were expelled out of I-League in 2013.
At the start of the 2013/14 season, the right-back joined Mumbai Tigers on a free transfer. However, the player left the club within a year after he found the game time hard to come by. In 2014/15, the player joined Mumbai FC on a free transfer. Before leaving Mumbai FC, the player had featured in 20 games with one goal to his name.
Rahul Bheke’s career took an upward turn when he joined East Bengal. Though he didn’t play many matches for the Kolkata-based outfit, the player was sent on loan for the ISL clubs rather warming the bench. The player caught the attention of multiple clubs with a string of good performances for Kerala Blasters in 2015/16 and FC Pune City in 2016/17. The consistent performances earned him a spot in Bengaluru FC through a draft.
Since his move to Bengaluru FC, the player has made several appearances for the national side. His impressive performances earned him a contract extension at the club.
