Neeraj Chopra: The Golden Armed Boy

Neeraj Chopra is an inspiring youngster in the field of Javelin Throw who is writing the story of his success with hard work and strong will to win. Chopra was born on 24th December 1997 at Panipat, Haryana. He was attracted to Javelin throw from a young age and he started training for it. His first international medal came in the form of a Gold Medal at the 2016 South Asian Games at Guwahati, India. In the same year, he won Silver Medal at the Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Asian Junior Championship. But this boy announced in front of the world that he is here to outlast all odds. In the 2016 World U20 Championship at Bydgoszcz, Poland he won a Gold Medal and created a World Junior Record in Javelin with a throw of 86.48m. Neeraj Chopra Source: In the 2017 Asian Championship at Bhubaneswar, India he again grabbed the Gold Medal. He also appeared in the World Championship held in London but his luck didn’t favor him this time and he had to satisfy with 15th place. But as it is said fortune favors the brave, in the 2018 Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast he created history by winning the first-ever Gold Medal in Javelin Throw for India. Neeraj Chopra broke the National Record with a throw of 88.06m at glorified India with a Gold Medal at the Asian Games. In the Asian Games, he was the flag bearer for the Indian contingent. He was awarded Arjuna Award for his exceptional performance at the International level in 2018. But right after his Asian Games gold medal, he suffered an elbow injury that ruled him out almost the entire 2019. After that, he came right back into form in the 2020 Athletics Central North East Meet at South Africa and qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. He is on the post of Naib Subedar at the Indian Army right now. India has much hope from him to glorify the country at the Olympic Games and this talented young lad is working hard to live up to the dream of every Indian.
