Rohan Bopanna: India's Tennis Doubles Champion

Rohan Bopanna Rohan Bopanna is one of the most highly decorated Tennis players of India. He mostly appears in mixed double category at International leagues. He is also a member of the Davis Cup Team of India since 2003. Bopanna started playing tennis at the age of 11 as his father wanted him to pursue a career in an individual sport. He showed interest in Football and Hockey too but at the age of 19. In 2002, Rohan Bopanna got the opportunity to play for India in the Davis Cup against Australia and soon become a professional player of the sport. In 2008, Rohan won the first Men’s Double international title. He won the Countrywide Classis in Los Angles along with his partner Eric Butorac. He even gained success at the SA Tennis Open back in 2010 with his partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi. This was his second ATP title. 2011 appeared to be the major milestone for Bopanna's career as he won three ATP titles that year with Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi. In 2012, he became a partner with Indian Tennis star Mahesh Bhupati and won two ATP World titles. They won the ATP Masters 1000 Paris and ATP World Title Dubai. With this, he also qualified for the 2012 Olympics with Mahesh Bhupati but failed to perform up to the mark. He reached his career-best ranking of number 3 in the mixed double in2013. He won two ATP Titles, one in Tokyo and the other at Marseille in the same year. In 2014, he returned to the team with Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi once again and won the Dubai ATP Title. Rohan Bopanna improved his record in 2015 and won four ATP World Tour in a single year with Florin Mergea and Daniel Nester. He won his first Grand Slam Title in 2017 by winning the French Open with his Canadian player Gabriela Dabrowski. Rohan Bopanna continued to play professional Tennis and in 2020 he won his latest ATP World Title at Doha with Wesley Koolhof. In 2018, he was also honoured with the Arjuna Award by the government of India. He has been constantly working to provide the best facilities to Indian Tennis players. “I want to provide the best Tennis facilities to the Indian players," Bopanna said during an interview with The Hindu.
